by Ramatouleye Goloco,

Today at Patterson, we had fun! Everybody gathered together in the auditorium and watched the sports teams celebrate the Homecoming Football games. The first team on the stage was the boys’ soccer team. The second group to take the stage was the cross country team. Third, the volleyball team and lastly, the boys football team sang, chanted, and danced.

Then, some of the boys carried a huge fake coffin to “bury” Frederick Douglass’ mascot (a duck) in. Three boys were dancing. One was singing. The photographers took a lot of pictures. Some Patterson Press reporters took pictures and toke some notes to post online. They ended with one boy break dancing.

The finale was having our own Baltimore City mega-talented performer Ricky Williams on stage. A good time was had by all, a really fun and exciting celebration. If you didn’t make it, attend next year!

Swim Team Improving

(Photo: Stephanie Megginson, Patterson Press)

By Stephanie Megginson,

Sadly, the swim team did not win their last meet, but luckily, we got great reviews from other teams. A few people said that Patterson High students are getting very good at swimming and that they can see that we improved a lot in that sport. The swim team really put their hearts into this game. They really pushed themselves and did the best they could.

For some of the swimmers, this was the first time they got to race in one of the meets. They did an awesome job for their first time. There are also some students who have been on the team longer, like Hannah McComas, Damian Gaither, Adam Rolek and Zac McCord. These students have been swimming for a while now.

Inside the girls soccer team

By Kibra Brutus,

This year I’m playing soccer, and I think we are doing well this month. Last week we won a game with Dunbar. The score was 7- 0, and they were mad enough to fight, but our coach, Mr.Cox, took us to our locker room. It was funny because they all were really mad, but the game was just for fun. They didn’t have to get mad. Anyway, last Thursday we had a game with Digital, and we beat them by 4-2. The first time we played them it didn’t make sense because they scored 6 goals, but we only scored 4.

This Monday we had a game with Western, and we played really hard because most of them knew how to play. In the first 40 minutes we scored 3 goals, and we were really good. In the second 40 minutes we scored only one because the other team had gotten better. After we scored one, the other team got the ball, and my friend, Reema, was on defense she went straight to the ball. But the other girl was coming to get the ball to, they both crashed and Reema got hurt my friend, Renee helped carry her off the field.

Then when we finished the game my friend Reema, couldn’t stand up because her knee was hurting her. I think Coach Cox called 911 and they came to take her. I was really really sad because she had to go to the hospital by herself. They didn’t let anyone go with her, when she went there she stayed until 1:00 AM and they gave her crutches to walk with.

The thing that makes me really mad is she can’t play the last game with City, and were done after that. I don’t want to lose because I want to make Reema happy. I hope we’ll win and our next game is on Thursday, 16th 2014 i’ll do my best to make Reema happy with our best team.

Patterson played Edmonson on Thursday, October, 16 . Even though we lost 16-18, some Patterson players deserve a shout-out for giving their all: Number 23, Kelvin Hussey, worked very hard; Number 11, Anthony Partlow, scored a Patterson touchdown (Anthony has really been showing his love for the game); Number 2, Tynard Barfield, also made a touchdown. The final score was close, but we gave our all.

by Xavier Williams,

Patterson High School held it’s 4th annual community fair and back to school night inside the school’s cafeteria on September 25 from 5:30 to 8:00. It was held to motivate students to help and support their school and get help from their community.

At the community fair there were different organizations sharing some services to students so they can help them be successful in the future. So many great colleges, companies and non-profit organizations came like, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center,  Morgan State University, Towson University and the University of Baltimore, New York life insurance and the Real Food Farm. One of the people that worked at the University of  Baltimore explained that they had come to the fair to “[recruit] students to come to the university and to inspire them to go to college”. There were more people from different groups that participated in the community fair, including a United States Marine who said he is looking forward to speaking with male and female students to help them become successful.

There was a belly dancer, flamenco dancer and hip hop dancers as well. The hip hop dancers were male students from Patterson who did an amazing  job performing at the fair.

I asked Mr.Benton,  “After seeing the laughter and happiness here at the community fair do you think that Patterson High School will be a top 500 school?” and he said he always believed Patterson High School would be a top 500 school and that the school strives for greatness.

I agree with that 100 hundred percent because we do strive for greatness and after seeing how great the fair turn out to be i’m just really proud of my school.this years community fair turned out to be a blast. Everyone enjoyed it, they danced they laughed and they ate. It felt like they were happy to be there and they had a great time. People who were at the fair expressed that next year’s fair will be even bigger.
